These routines are not needed with SSDs, and the defragging can be considered harmful. However, many manufacturers supply SSDs in hard drive-style cases so that the SSD can be slotted into an ordinary laptop, replacing the original hard drive. These PCs may well use SSDs that resemble sticks of memory chips, like the Toshiba Blade X-gale first used in Apple MacBook Airs. If you want to use an SSD as the system disk in a PC running Windows 7, it would be best to buy a new PC that has been designed for the purpose. Of course, if you are using a laptop on mains power, you can set the hard drive to keep running all the time, and minimise this particular problem. This can make a laptop with an SSD feel much more responsive. SSDs don't spin, and don't need to be restarted, so they can be read instantly. When a program wants to read that hard drive, you have to wait until it gets back up to speed. This failed as well.Īt this point I am beginning to wonder if the motherboard is the problem, so I've downloaded a bios update but I haven't had a chance to apply it yet. I then used the command line to copy all the files from the usb drive over to it and tried to make it bootable.

I also made sure the bios could see the drive (which I expected since I see it on the windows install list). I checked the bios and set it to all default settings. I then worried it was the iso, so I used the iso2usb tool to write a different win64 iso to the drive (ultimate version this time, just to see if it would go through).
Tried using the windows tools to delete the partitions and install, create a partition and install, and then format the partition and install - same error. Then rebooted the machine and tried again, same error Hitting shift+f-10 at the main install screen and -diskpart -list disk -select disk 0 (my ssd) -clean -create partition primary align=1024 -format fs=ntfs quick -assign letter=C -active -exit -exit I followed several websites instructions and have tried the following: At the point where I am to select the drive to install on, it gives an error about not detecting a partition on the drive.
