
You can browse or search for projects and best of all you can ‘see inside’ to examine how they made it and even duplicate their project so you can experiment and change it. From complex games to animated stories and there’s a whole community of thousands of people who use it and publish their creations.

Scratch is a free website and coding environment in which you can create almost anything. If you are totally new to Scratch or have forgotten everything we did last year here’s a quick recap. Here are a few to get started: What is Scratch?

I will be adding some tips here over time so if you’ve forgotten how to use Scratch or need some ideas please revisit and refresh this page. Click the Create button and let’s get started. Nearly there! The class page is looking a little blank at the moment. Click the Next Step button when you’re done. You only need to enter your birth year and country. Who’s goatstacc? That’s me! You should be wary about putting in personal information. You should see a screen like this when you login. Contact me if you don’t have it or unable to sign in. Scratch home page Check your email for your username and password. If you don’t have it you can email me directly and I will reply as soon as I can. I will be sending these details via email. Only school accounts can share projects to the class studio which you will need to do to have the project assessed. If you have a personal scratch account I ask that you do NOT use it for school work. Students have new school logins this year. You have access to (YouTube, Spotify etc) Step 2 – Login to Scratch Is appropriate for our classroom (no rude or explicit language)ģ. If you don’t already have access to the song then you will also have to find somewhere you can play it from e.g. Also decide on what part of the song you will animate the lyrics for. Step 1 – Choose a songįollow the guidelines below and google the lyrics just to make sure you know the correct lyrics. You also do NOT need to add the song to Scratch. The goal is experiment with different ways of animating the words to make it match the mood and message of the song. You may choose to only do the chorus or one of the verses – that’s fine.

You do NOT have to do the lyrics for the whole song. You could also use the fancy text feature in which is what I did for a recent project I did for church. I used the site which you may remember I documented on the post about creating posters – it has heaps of great fonts from many different sources.

You don’t have to do that of course, but you can use different sources for your words. You might recognise the font I used above as having a Minecraft theme. Now that (above) is not a good example of song lyric animation as you would never have a song with just 3 words. The first Scratch project we will create this year will be… (pssst, click the green flag) Digital creations in Scratch therefore have a potential worldwide audience and can be used to serve others in many different ways. You can also use screen capture/recording to convert them into graphics or videos to use on other platforms.

One of the great features of Scratch projects is the ability to easily share them with others and embed them into websites like this one. Previously students used it to animate their name, create games, stories and animations/graphics to support our ‘Jesus light of the world’ conference. The Scratch website is a powerful tool that enables students to integrate many different skills, collaborate and construct some wonderful digital creations.
